Today, we witnessed a very special occurrence – a solar eclipse!
A solar eclipse is when the moon covers the sun, and blocks out the sunlight! This can only happen when the moon moves directly between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow onto the Earth’s surface.
It is very rare that an eclipse is viewable in the UK, with experts saying the next total eclipse will not be until 2090!
It is extremely dangerous to look at the eclipse with the naked eye, as the sun’s rays are harmful to our eyesight.
The boys and girls over at Twinkles Boston Spa, used the help of our kitchen colander to allow them to watch the eclipse taking place! The holes in the colander created shadows onto the paper, allowing the children to recognise the moon as it passed over the sun, creating a safe way for them to watch this amazing experience!
